Is Ceramic Coating or Paint Protection Film (PPF) Worth it?

Many new car owners question whether it is worth paying for ceramic coating or paint protection film (PPF) on their leased or financed car that they plan on returning in a few years?

We always say it is absolutely mandatory to protect the paintwork of any new cars that are purchased out of the showroom.

Why?

In modern days brand new cars come out of the car dealership with a very thin layer of paintwork due to government legislation around climate control. Car manufacturers are having to reduce the number of layers of paint and protection they apply on new cars which leaves car owners with very fragile paintwork that can easily get damaged from the UV rays, bird dropping, tree sap, environmental contamination, wash marring, swirl scratches, scuffs and scratches.

Car Paint Protection Options

Ceramic Coating and/or Paint Protection Film (PPF) are the 2 best form of paint protection that are worth considering when you are looking to protect the paint of your newly owned, leased or financed car as detailed below

 Ceramic Coating Paint Protection

In lament terms ceramic coating paint protection is the traditional wax protection (lower strength) but on steroids as the ceramic protection can last between 3-5 years in one single application. Not to mention some car detailers offer different longevity packages of anything between 1-7 years.

Benefits of Car Ceramic Coating

  • High value for money

  • Adds high gloss enhancement & slickness to paintwork.

  • Paint Protection lasts between 3-5 years.

  • Protects paintwork from bug guts, tar, tree sap, bird droppings, brake dust, chemicals, contamination, etc.

  • Dirt & water repellent

  • Easy to clean and maintain due to the slickness of the ceramic coating.

  • Keeps the car looking new all year round and throughout its protected period.

  • Stays cleaner for longer.

Disadvantages of Car Ceramic Coating:

  • Does not protect paintwork from scuffs and scratches.

  • Although it is swirl & wash marring resistant, it does not offer total protection.

Car Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Paint protection film (PPF) is a whole new level of protection. It is a transparent thermoplastic urethane film wrap that not only is naked to the eye like ceramic coating, but offers the strongest paint protection against stone chips, scuffs and scratches, swirl marks, UV rays and chemicals. When you accidently scape the car somewhere or a jealous individual key scratches your car, chances are the PPF film will save the paintwork of your car from the damage.

Benefits of Paint Protection Film (PPF)

  • PPF lasts up to or more than 10 Years with manufacture warrantee.

  • Protects the car paintwork from stone chips, scuffs and scratches, swirl marks, UV rays, chemicals,

  • Self-Healing ability. With some heat, minor scuffs and scratches can be removed

  • Invisible wrap

  • Adds gloss enhancement & shine to the paintwork.

  • Makes it easier to clean.

 Disadvantages of Paint Protection Film:

  • I really can’t think of any disadvantages.

Comparison between Car Ceramic Coating & Paint Protection Film

The biggest difference between car ceramic coating & paint protection film (PPF) is that ceramic coating mainly aims at preserving the gloss on your paintwork and offers protection from UV Rays, bird droppings, tree sap, bug gut splatter, etc whereas paint protection film (PPF) does everything the ceramic coating does except offers greater strength against stone chips, scuffs, and scratches.

Is Car Ceramic Coating Worth it?

Car ceramic coating paint protection is the most cost-effective way to keep the paintwork looking nice and shiny all year round and makes cleaning a lot easier.

Is Paint Protection Film (PPF) Worth It?

Car Paint Protection Film (PPF) is offering the best protection again scuffs and scratches that can cost you a significant amount of money to repair especially when the cost of body work repairs in London is only in the rise.

Far too often we have seen our customers spending a large amount of money on repairing a minor scuff/ damage in 1 panel due to body repair shops respraying multiple panels to blend and match the paintwork. This can cost anything between £700 to £800 or more for 1 single section.

Not only does it cost you a lot of money to repair and respray panels, but the finishing of a resprayed panel is never the same as the factory finish especially if your car has a special metallic or pearlescent paintwork. We have witnessed many unhappy customers who love their cars and have been heartbroken by this process.

Leased or Financed Cars Paint Protection

Is it worth protecting the paintwork with either ceramic coating or paint protection film (PPF) on a leased car?

If you want the car to look nice and shiny throughout your ownership, then I would recommend opting in for the ceramic coating.

If you want to protect yourself against high bills when returning the car back to the leasing company due to scuffs and scratches, then I will opt in for the Paint Protection Film (PPF) as leasing company’s make their most money when their cars are returned to them with damages. Even if you repair the damage at your local body shop, you must meet the leasing company’s repair standards.

Not only can you apply PPF on any leased car it is highly recommended to do so and it doesn’t affect the vehicles warrantee with the car dealership either. You can simply remove the Paint Protection Film (PPF) whenever you wish. It peels off like a wrap and you can do it yourself without damaging anything.

On-going PPF or Ceramic Coating Maintenance

It’s probably easier to wash and maintain cars with either ceramic coating or paint protection film (PPF) as the surface is much more slick than a non-protected paintwork. Any non-acidic car cleaning products will be good enough.

How much does full PPF cost in London and Is PPF worth the money?

If you wish to apply paint protection film (PPF) to the front end of your car then it costs around £1500 and if you want the full car wrapped in PPF then it costs around £3500

I will definitely recommend PPF on nice cars or cars with metallic or pearlescent paintwork.

How much does ceramic coating cost in London?
